My New Blog Theme

Yes, I have been monkeying around with my blog theme again!

A blog theme is like a coat of paint for your website. The theme consists of the color scheme, font style, color pallet and a number of other items. These various components determine the look and feel of the site.

The Genesis of this Theme

When developing this site I decided to get a jump start by purchasing a theme for my blog rather than developing one from scratch. The theme I chose is Anima, a theme developed for the Ghost blogging.

I chose the Anima theme because it is a minimalist, content-focused theme that allows me to display interesting images that I come across. Also, I get to learn a bit more about Zurb Foundation, a CSS framework that I use for many of my projects.

You can learn more about the Ghost Blogging Platform here.

Although I like the Writer theme, there were an number of modifications I wanted to make before it could be used on the my blog.

Writing in Markdown

Ghost uses Markdown for writing. Markdown down is a text-to-html conversion tool that allows you to focus on writing your content without having to worry about the styling of the content. For example, suppose you want to use a simple bulleted list like this:

  • Item number one
  • Item number two
    • A nested item
  • A final item

In Markdown, you would write:

* Item number one
* Item number two
    * A nested item
* A final item

Instead of having to write html code like this:

<ul>
<li>Itme number one</li>
<li>Item number two
    <ul>
        <li A nested Item></li>
    </ul>
</li>
<li>A final item</li>

Well, that's it for now. you can give me feedback and let me know what you think about the theme in the comments below.
